Last one,

Seeing as compilations/best of/greatest hits are allowed then I'll go for :-

Sam Cooke's Greatest Hits.

The best voice ever.

Lights Out - UFO

Saw these four times back in the 70's when Michael Schenker was at his best. Pure class.

There's loads; but, Stone Roses first album springs to mind.

I'll think about it and come up with a couple more.

Impossible to answer, but one that has stood the test of time for me and gets a spin every now and then is Lou Reed 'Rock and Roll Animal'

The Queen Is Dead - on the shop floor calendar, as obvious as snow...

Dummy - a new, gorgeous sound perfectly executed, and bizarrely unripped off apart from by Goldfrapp

Seamonsters - each song as good as any other they've written. Perfect for driving, dancing, getting drunk etc...

Unfinished Monkey Business - years and years of great tunes all spent on his first spectacular solo album

Velvet Underground & Nico - a totally inoffensive record with songs that even your grandma would like

And just for Mahler, my favourite 3 classical pieces:

Catalani - La Wally

Tchaikovsky - Nutcracker Act 2 Scene 2

Verdi - Requiem: Tuba Mirum

Doesn't sound that much of a flip to me Steve. Maybe he avoided Puff the Magic Dragon and turned out different :lol!:

Seems like you had the punk by-pass op in the late '70's though Steve :lol!:

I was driving a lot today and thinking more about this question. Chronologically the key turnng points seem to have been thus:

late 60s\early 1970s- Puff the Magic Dragon a key early influence
1973\74 - Glam Rock seems cool, buy first album (The Sweet, the one with Blockbuster on it)
mid 70s - flirt with Prog Rock, and buy a few Supertramp albums including Breakfast in America. Also keen follower of Bon Scott era ACDC - Let There Be Rock a timeless classic, everyother song being about venereal disease seems edgy to a 10 yr old.
Goat Head Soup gets banned from being played in my house due to parents taking exception to lyrics of Star Star.
Mid to late 70s - diet dominated by Floyd and Led Zep.
Late late 70s - get more into Neil Young at time of the Rust album and discover back catalogue. Also into Iggy Pop - New Values etc, plus discover back catalogue
Early 80s - Joy Division, Bunnymen, Smiths - dominate diet for next 10 years
Early 90s- havent bought any new music in ages, everything seems derivative and boring
Mid 90s - discover classical and opera, havent looked back

I've probably only bought 3 or 4 albums in the past 10 years. dont own an Ipod or anything similar. Just happy listening to the back catalogue. Spend a fair bit of time looking for stuff on you tube, but not keen enough to learn how to download anything.

Changes every day, but ...

Primal Scream - Screamadelica
Just seems to have everything going for it, nice mellow chilled out stuff.

Mr Lif - I Phantom
IMO easily the best bit of hiphop since the early 90s and I'd say probably my favourite hiphop album

Surgeon - This Is For You Sh*ts
A mix CD rather than an album, but I think it represents everything that's good about electronic music ... relentless rhythms, really harsh industrial sounds, completely messed up stuff.

Those 3 do the business time and time again :)

Really, really hard. I'd have to go for The Clash's eponymous debut album. Just about changed my life - from prog rocker to punk in 15 brilliant tracks!!!
