Use the really thin glue for model kits.
The ones that come in a little bottle with a brush built into the lid.
Humbrol Liquid Poly or Tamiya Extra Thin.
Just a thin coat on the part that will be hidden inside.
Leave it for a minute then put the 2 halves together.

Hasbro or Santiago spitfire would do the job, anything to get the kids flicking. Under a fiver on eBay including postage but they won’t come with figures attached.

I haven’t played old style for a while, pity as it’s definitely more enjoyable than the slidey version.
