Re: Lost in translation?, question for Italian readers

Thanks for the reply - good to know! The question was sparked off by researching some non-FIFA team colours and came upon the N.F. board website, apparently it was founded in a pub called 'La Mort Subite' I though it was some clever comment about the death of Subbuteo (?????) - but its 'the sudden d...

Baize Pitch Experiment

I wanted to make my baize pitch resistant to creasing - did a bit of research and there is a chemical which is used to treat fabrics to make them crease resistant. Bit more research and it is a component of Johnsons multi surface floor wax....SO...... Washed pitch in cool water When it had dried to ...

Lost in translation?, question for Italian readers

We all know the story - PA wanted to call the game 'the Hobby', and ended up using the scientific name of the hobby (bird) Falco subbuteo (where Subbuteo = sub+buteo, in translation a small buzzard-like bird). So that was the name. Now in Latin derived languages the word 'subito' means quick, immedi...

Re: What team is this?

couldn't be a team of 'spare goalkeepers' C106 style could it? Only thought that because in another thread somewhere was a team of ref 21 flats which were all actually white shirted keepers.......just a thought....

Re: Whats was this Box for?

Looks to me like one I have with a red scoreboard in it - in those days the fence surround was nothing more than a few brass clips and a piece of string! (got one of those boxed too)

Re: Fouls

Formations issue depends on attitude I guess - I enjoy making passing moves, irrespective of the scoreline. The 'game' as it is now is clusters of players on the shooting line being manipulated by micro-flicks or shoves made to impersonate flicks - doesn't float my boat even if others get a thrill o...

Re: Fouls

Of course it isn't possible to totally replicate Association Football on the small pitch, but as more recent developments have shown, loopholes in the rules are generally exploited, and then propagated across the playing community (such as as 8-0-2 formations or a player running the full length of t...

Re: Huddersfield vs Man City

 Cheers! Good to be back again, having a break means coming back to the game with fresh enthusiasm  - as to those quaking goalposts - I blame the equipment (I always do) :-"

Re: Huddersfield vs Man City

Well, well, well. I met this guy at the Subbuteo 'tournament' in Leeds a few years back - he had me stitched up like a kipper - 'I am quite new to this thing, ohh, you play with flat players, where do I get some?' so I sold him a set of cellys cheap, to encourage anyone with interest in the flats. F...

Re: "Old Subbuteo"

Hey guys, BlackpoolRock - I too see it as a thinking game, agree with your sentiments about solo play! Flash - Tournaments are an acquired taste to be sure, having been picked up on three differences in rules in two games, then playing a third game where I was picked up on a change in Rules I had ju...

Re: "Old Subbuteo"

Hello everyone, just returned to this forum after a while and couldn't resist this thread :D A few words in defence of non-tournament and solo play....don't get me wrong playing in a tournament is great for meeting people, especially putting faces to usernames, and making some good friends, but the ...

Re: The Stoke Old Subbuteo Tournament & Fair 20/03/16

Andy, Many thanks for a good day out yesterday. Besides enjoying an opportunity to play Subbuteo again (but must remember to brush up on the 'definitive' rules because there seem to be some different interpretations out there that caught me out a few times!), it was good to pick up a few things fro...
