Re: How much difference does the playing surface make?

The Knighton Open in 1992 (this was way before my dad moved there) had one of the most incredible (nylon) pitches ever. It was actually like playing on a ploughed field - regular ruts and the pitch itself at a lower altitude one end than the other. "Cabbages" all over too. All played in very low lig...

Re: Welsh Cup for Teams - 14th Jan 2018

Team events are not within the ethos of OS , and neither is Sports Table Football although I notice you've chosen to use the S word above   As far as I'm concerned, what I play is Subbuteo. We (the Lichfield club) ran as a Subbuteo equipment only club up until 1997, and only switched the...

Re: Welsh Cup for Teams - 14th Jan 2018

There are people playing OS in groups as opposed to a club system as it suits them that way.
A couple of tournaments are proposed for 2018
How are they played, everyone plays each other once in the opposite team? What team sizes?

I'm curious :)

Re: Welsh Cup for Teams - 14th Jan 2018

FISTF Rules? Yes. However, it's not tied to FISTF registrations, ie if you're a solo person wanting to play, turn up anyway - you cpuld sign on the day for Cardiff/London Rd/... and it not affect anything else. Out of interest, are there any OldSubbuteo team tournaments (ie 4 people from one club p...

PTF Sureshot/Advantage bases offer 90% of the benefit of the modern basbases for a lower price (£8 a set?)

Re: Old Subbuteo computer disk

I had it as a youngster. Near unplayable game. Weirdly was contacted in the late 90s by a software developer who said Hasbro had tasked them with remaking it - assume nothing came of it though, didn't hear from them again afterwards

Migration?

Hi, It looks like the Subbuteo Players Forum is going to be disappearing soon. I know there is/was a certain amount of animosity when the two forums split back in the day, and probably still now to some extent, but do you think it'd be possible to have a small FISTF section to promote FISTF events (...

Re: Meet TMS - Tournament Management System

Dealing with odd numbers without awarded games, however, is a much more interesting problem. I reckon ... Rather than giving an awarded win, you put a mark by the player. A player can only be 'marked' (ie would've received a bye) once. Then, after the 'normal' rounds have been played, you play a fi...

Re: Meet TMS - Tournament Management System

Hi Algy, Thank you for your call and contribution. I'm sorry you haven't be on windows system. Installing TMS in MAC is possible but it not easy as far as I was told. As I have no MAC I go further. About the Swiss system, you presented 2 different cases. The first one is with 6 players only. Well, ...

Re: Meet TMS - Tournament Management System

A-ha, I wrote it in an email to myself. This is another set of problematic scores for a swiss ladder ROUND 1 A v B, 1-1 C v D, 4-2 E v F, 3-1 G v H, 2-0 I v J, 0-0 C - 3/+2/4 E - 3/+2/3 G - 3/+2/2 A - 1/0/1 B - 1/0/1 I - 1/0/0 J - 1/0/0 D - 0/-2/2 F - 0/-2/1 H - 0/-2/0 -- ROUND 2 C v E, 2-2 G v A, 0...

NB: Lionofludesch ... yeah, I know you shouldn't have goal difference in a swiss ladder, but people do because they're wrong ;)

Re: Meet TMS - Tournament Management System

Heya, Just had a look at your pages - well done, it looks like you've put an awful lot of work in to it!! Can't test it, I'm afraid, as I don't have access to a Windows PC. But for the Swiss system, I'd found that software can struggle (mine has) in "unusual" circumstances. I have a feeling I posted...

Re: Meet TMS - Tournament Management System

paper and pen ..... unbeatable

or rely on technology and risk losing the ability to think ....
I spent/wasted 10 years trying to write spreadsheets & then computer software to run events. I'm yet to make anything as efficient as my squared moleskine notebook and a biro :)
