Re: Brookfield Solo League: Season 06

It's incredible how the old system of two points for a win can bunch them up. I discovered only this morning how, back in 1963, Stoke City won the Second Division title with 53 points from 42 games, with Chelsea, in second place, getting promoted with 52, although they had a goal difference of 39. (...

Re: Premier League 17/18 solo

Good luck. Your league may well prove more interesting to follow than the real one.

If experts like you have occasional problems posting documents on here, then novices like me have no chance!

Re: Brookfield Solo League: Season 06

Just Like Old Times Aberdither United 2, Iveley Park 2. It is rare, these days, for two of the League's oldest "big clubs" to meet in the top tier, as several have fallen on lean times. On an occasion when both teams are competing for the top, it has become special. In the early stages of this game...

Re: Brookfield Solo League: Season 06

I'm afraid a few fixtures had to be postponed for several days, due to an outbreak of some dreaded lurgy, involving players and officials. In addition, we didn't want our spectators to turn up to watch a match and return home ill.

All seems to have returned to as normal as it ever gets up here.

Around the grounds: Division One: Bullford 1-2 Mill Town; Blundell City 0-2 Iveley Park; Mill athletic 1-0 Hodwell; Eastroke Utd 1-1 Aberdither Utd; Greyston town 2-0 Brimpton Rov. So unfancied Greyston Town still top the League, with a one point lead over Aberdither United and Iveley Park. It could...

Re: Brookfield Solo League: Season 06

Melchester Looking More Confident Melchester Rovers 2, Ellerfield Athletic 1. Since Iveley Park's surprise win at Bullford a few rounds ago, most of our attack-minded sides have become rather more adventurous. They're not scoring that many more goals, but they are tending not to fall victim to a la...

Re: World Cup 1966

And who is to say that wouldn't have happened in 1966 had Pele not been almost kicked out of the tournament in his first match.

I hope it's been as rewarding to stage and fun to play as it's been to follow on here. Many thanks for posting the details, and keeping us so well informed.

Pele against Eusebio, and at least half a dozen others who will grace the Final.

We look forward to a truly memorable match, befitting the occasion.

Re: Some Original Defence Rules

Thank you, Number9. I also believe the turn-based play is best, even if not always taken alternately, with the phrases, "Take careful aim, do not hurry," symbolising what the game was all about. On the occasions when I have played solo to seventies' rules, the 'house rule' was always that whenever a...

Re: World Cup 1966

What a shame that two nations are going home on the spin of a coin. This fine tournament deserves better, you haven't had FIFA's good fortune. Had such occurrences occurred in 1966, that competition would surely have been remembered very differently. Football's governing body certainly "got away wit...

Re: HAVE YOU GOT A WILLY ?

Afraid so, but it's not spelt that way for your tournament, apparently, according to your title question! If they are genuine, and not sold out yet, I would be only too pleased to order one. I do hope it could be delivered in time to be displayed prominently during the Final, should England get ther...

Re: HAVE YOU GOT A WILLY ?

I do hope, Sir, that your fine tournament has not been let down by faulty, or, dare I even suggest it, counterfeit supplies.

My concern is drawn by a spelling discrepancy.
