Re: This Could Start A Bidding Frenzy

Subbuteo is now like most of the art galleries around the world full of fakes. I wonder what percentage of rare teams in collections are fakes. I've read that a lot of galleries know they have fakes but tend not to publicise it, a bit like Subbuteo collectors I suspect.

Re: Man City cup winners 1969

Nice looking team, Jon. Just watched the brief highlights (youtube). 50 year anniversary next year. Jeez. I can remember it like it was yesterday; unlike the recent cup finals, of which I have hardly any recollections at all. :? The kits from that era really do look superb. i cant remember a single...

Re: 1973 Reps report re ordering teams etc

Nice find Spud, anything that adds to our knowledge of SSG should be preserved.

Re: need some help!!

Didn't only the basic rules have no blocking flicks? Seems sensible to start like that, as I remember starting and not being able to hit the blessed ball, so no one would be on their ar$e for more than a minute I would guess! I personally enjoy the slower game, and the three block flicks to get you...

Thanks. Unfortunately I didn't get to choose the base colour, they were requested in this combination.
Very nice work, but I think you should have gently suggested an alternative base. :O

Re: ‘NEW LUTON’...

I think that neckline was by design because every example of that variation I have seen has the oversized V collar. Same with the Villa 74 and United 100 teams. And the Haiti 175 variant before I forget. Not every Kent Housewife skills were lacking. I know they weren't....I knew the best of them! J...

Re: ‘NEW LUTON’...

I've never got my head around why SSG tried to replicate the collared shirt with a huge 'v' at the neck. And why they chose to do it on some teams and not others with collars. If you were a Kent Housewife trying to paint 100's of those Luton's with 'V' and stripes to side, every day, you would have...

Re: ‘NEW LUTON’...

Part of the appeal of the HW's is the imperfect painting, which gives them all a character of their own. Love the way the hair has been slapped on.

Re: Gullseye solo League Cup Final

I know they were both in Division One around that time, but it's good to see some less familiar names appearing in finals and winning trophies. I have four divisions of 12 and operate two up and two down. It just happened that both these teams are now in the First Division. The two Manchester’s, Li...

Gullseye solo League Cup Final

This years final was contested by Luton Town and Swansea City both from the First Division. Both clubs have never won the trophy and Swansea’s first appearance in a final. Stein put Luton into a 1-0 halftime lead. Irwin equalised midway through the second half in a close encounter. With the game loo...

Re: CELLULOID TEAMS

I agree, regarding the Continental sets. By the early sixties the celluloid teams were either considered a thing of the past, or were simply not 'pushed' by the stores. Everyone had the 'new' players. There are certainly some very nice teams in your collection. Are you planning to play them in any ...
