Named Aston Villa

Postby spudski » 19 May 2017, 09:09

Always thought this team was a bit of an oddity. Only mentioned in the SSG Catalogue in this kit colour scheme for one year 1970-71.

Actually worn by Villa in 69-70.

Doesn't turn up often, but when it does, can come in a multitude of base combo's and in box's from late 60's to mid 70's splash, as can be seen in the ref section. Even odder...typed named labels of 'New Aston Villa' on splash box's of the mid 70's, even though the traditional ref 74 was back on the scene in 72.

This team has an early 70's box lid, but late 60's tray and inner and keeper. All seems legit and aged/stained the same. Even the glue marks you sometimes get on the inner match up...so it seems this team all came together like this.

SSG bunging stock together?

Thanks for sharing. It's a nice find with the named box.

I always thought this was an ugly kit, mainly because the exaggerated neck-V seems to come too far down the shirt.

"Doesn't turn up often" - it's not that rare though is it? In a numbered box I mean?

I agree, you don't see that many. I would put it as a 3+ in rarity. More in a named box.

Agree about the 'v' neck Steve.

Marks team is a better 'V'.

However...I do like this kit.

Did they care too much when putting teams together back in the day- probably not to the extent some collectors believe they should have.

Nice find and not too often you see named box. I was looking tbrough some of my teams, found a 'new norwich'- forgotten all about it
