The highs and lows of being a HW collector

Post by ian_tambo » 29 Apr 2015, 16:52

Received a couple of teams recently from seperate deals. Ref 87 and Ref 313.

The ref 87 was a nice surprise as it was described to me as a ref 17 so imagine my surprise when I received this ref 87.

The ref 313 I just assumed was a HW from how the chap described it - imagine my disappointment when I took the lid off. Still it's a nice hand painted team I guess.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose!

So true. And when the surprise is such a nice HW87 you wish to go on collecting.
Congratulations Ian
May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true, may you always do for others and let others do for you. May your heart always be joyful, may your song always be sung, may you stay forever young. [BOB DYLAN, Forever young]

Both nice teams, something tasty about HP Zombies.
I missed out on a couple on Ebay today, 77 & 81, hey ho.

You know what Steve, I remeber years back an Italian friend being what I thought too obsessed with ref numbers. The longer you collect, the more you want those ref boxes!

No question about that.

At the start I didn't care too much. Give me a good quality team and I'd be happy.

Now ... I want a good quality team in a good quality referenced box.

The obsession / madness goes up a notch or two ;-)

BTW, that HW87 is a cracker – and the HW313's not bad either!

"loose"? they don't look particularly loose to me.

Still, gaining that 87 makes up for "loosing" out on the other one... ;-)
Football was NOT invented in 1992. It was in 1973, the year I bought my first Subbuteo set...

Speaking of the ref...

In my opinion reffed box can't become the most important thing, when people buy Subbuteo.
I have seen too many ebay auctions ending to crazy prices just because there was a good reffed box.
I understand Ian ... it would be better to have a mint rare team in a mint, reffed box ! Everybody wish it.
But I am still more than very very happy to find a mint rare team in a poor box ! During the last year I have seen sooo many box bulk, very often including reference sticker and sometimes rare numbers. On the contrary I haven't seen so many rare teams in very good conditions where I was absolutly sure they were genuine.

It is just an opinion...

I must admit that 313 is growing on me!

Think I'm over the dissapoitment of it not being a HW.
