Help Required. HW team identification ?

Post by Wacca » 31 Oct 2016, 20:51

Long time follower but first post. Great to see the enthusiasm still alive and kicking !

Rekindled my interest after a 30 year gap and now started collecting again. Fell lucky at local car boot and picked up job lot of heavyweights. However am at a loss at the team pictured. I think it may be a 327 but shorts/socks don't match. I am by no means an expert but looks original paintwork.

Has anyone got any suggestions ?
Many thanks

Hi,

Pretty sure it's a Ref 80, Burnley 2nd.

Google 'Peter Upton Subbuteo' and visit that site. It will help in identifying & authenticating teams and other Subbuteo items. It's also a great read on the history of the hobby.

The Celtic Dreams Subbuteo site is also good as it has clickable photos of HW figures which blow up to a large size on the screen.

Lovely example of a ref 80 Burnley...can only concur with what's been said already.

What other teams did you find? Feel free to share...can't beat looking at new finds :-)

Thanks a lot for your help - much appreciated.

Have attached a few others. Fairly common but good condition.

QPR 2nd/ Feyenoord ref 85
AC Milan ref 57
Scotland ref 318
England c138 version but missing one player (was replaced with a ref 154 I think).
If anyone has a spare player for this set please let me know

Also a Celtic 25, Liverpool 41, Chelsea 42 and Palace/Barcelona 19.

Thanks again

Beautiful 85 and 57.

Great haul though! Well done!!

Great find - love the Milan and Burnley

Couple of standard Club Editions is the best I've ever seen at a car boot.

I too have had slim pickings at car boots....in fact i have never seen any Subbuteo at one myself!!

My brother in law did pick up a Cricket Test Boxed set and a Rugby box set a couple of years ago for me.

So to get a nice 57 , 80 and 85 as well as a Reverse base England is outstanding.

charity shops aren't much better either these days...spoke to a few who work there when I was in Dartmouth last week. Apparently if there is just one piece missing from a game they won't sell it, and it gets binned...nightmare.

Foreign Auction houses and flea markets seem to be good hunting grounds though.

Agree, the 57, 80 and 85 look pristine, especially the 57.

The blue looks very dark on the Scotland though. Could it be a Ref 44 with overpainted socks and added trim?
