Need help

Post by andygreaves » 15 Jan 2018, 19:10

Hi,

I’m looking for some help regarding a Subbuteo chest I have. I was given this by my grandma. As this was presented to them by Waddingtons I believe Ayer they organised an event at their pub at short notice.

It is a chest them has rugby, football and cricket set in plus stadium, lights, crowd etc. This has never been opened so all pieces are still in the foam and have the plastic wrapping on and the foam is engraved with Subbuteo.

I’ve looked all over the internet and can not find a chest like the one o have.

I’m just wanting help on 1. Is it valuable and two where I could get it appraised?

I’ve attached images for you to look at, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Andy Greaves

Hi Andy, that's a nice rare item and very collectable for the right person. If you really wanted rid, perhaps try asking for buyers on here...maybe around £500 or on ebay. I stand to be corrected of course by others here, but that's what I would think! Hope that helps.

Condition is everything when collecting and whilst the trays look immaculate the actual chest looks very damaged. That is bound to have an effect on the value. Can't say that I've ever seen one for sale on EBay, though I haven't specifically been looking for this item.
A discussion is an exchange of knowledge, an argument is an exchange of ignorance.

Couple on recently...difficult to judge for two reasons namely the very high price sought by the owner of the set most recently seen on here plus the questionable appeal of the set itself ...big set obviously restricted market

Yes that’s what I thought, my gran stored it in her garage where the water damage took place. That’s why she gave it to me to save after this happened.

Again really appreciate your advise mate thank you

It's really quite a specialist item, it will appeal to the collector who wants to have all the box sets for example. The internals are fairly easy to collect and so it's the outside carry-case that has to be bang on, as others have alluded to. I'd imagine a mint one will achieve anywhere between 1000-2000, but that would almost certainly have to be completely mint, perhaps even with an additional outer box sent from Subby towers.
Damage like yours is showing is going to really restrict the price to 300-500 and that reflects the contents, more than the carry case.
Current spares: Brescia x2 light blue inner, white outer, PMs please if you can help.
