Where to buy?

Postby Pearsop2 » 13 Jul 2018, 18:00

I’ve recently been trying to get hold of all the teams I had as a boy and I seem to have the bug. I’ve even taught my girlfriends 8 year old boy to play and he’s hooked.
Ive picked up some bargains on eBay and my collection is growing at quite a rate but now I seem to be seeing a lot of the same old on there and wondered if anyone had any advice on the best places to find these hidden gems.
Any advice would be greatly received.

I’m collecting lightweight teams as that’s what I had growing up in the 80’s and early 90’s. I like the iconic kits of the era especially those with some detail. Liverpool yellow 363, Denmark white Hummel kit are a couple I’d like and my holy grail is the Newcastle 815 green kit. Basically I like the different kits and if one catches my eye and if I like it I’ll try and get it. E.g I just got the Belgium 499 white with diamonds because I loved it as a kid so had to get it again.

If you live near Sheffield, try this. The next fair is in October.

love it or hate it, the best place to buy is ebay. Largest selection that changes daily. Prices can be up and down but you generally pay less than from a dealer. Study description and photos closely to avoid paying good money for damaged players.

Yeh Ebay is probably the best place for the volume and variety.

At least if LW's are your thing you havent got as much of a problem with repaints and non genuine stuff. If it was HW's Ebay can be a minefield to navigate for the less experienced collector.

And the Subbuteo Fair at Sheffield usually has loads of LW's for sale.

I’m starting to work out the dealers and loft clearer’s on eBay so I’m getting some ok deals. I’ve had a small amount of luck at car boots too.
Someone mentioned charity shops. Has anyone had any luck with those?

The Newcastle 815 green seems to be like rocking horse doo. Starting to think I’ll need to wait until Sheffield before I get the chance to buy that one

Miles away as I’m in Southampton. Do you know of one available then?
