The original isn't bad but the John Cale version is better. There was something in the Times yesterday rating about a dozen versions. Personally, Christmas No.1's ceased to be important for me about 1976 and, given the fact that you only need to sell about 50,000 singles to be no.1 these days it all seems even less relevant. Still, it gets Simon Cowell more free media coverage. Be interesting to see what it did for record sales if every band got the ?billions-worth of free publicity provided by the X-Factor.

There also seems to be some sort of campaign to download the Jeff Buckley version to try to stop Alexandra Burke being no.1 but it seems doomed to failure.

Apparently, Cowell's raking in ?250,000 per day as his label owns the rights to all three versions of Hallelujah!

can't stand the manufactured x-factor-type wannabees...nowadays everyone believes they have talent. No No No!

Cowell must be laughing his socks off at the sheep that send him all this lovely dosh.

His label owns the rights? Did she pick the song then, or did he *cough cough* 'suggest' it?

Cowell's just simply a See-You-Next-Tuesday.
Couldn't give a flying f*** how rich the bloke is or how much of ITV he controls,he's still a waste of skin.
