Here is another footy game from chad valley called big league.....all teams were self paints and me and my dad had hours of fun with it. He painted Liverpool and Birmingham City [Penguin kit]. It never was as good as Subby though.

Looks like Striker but I'm guessing the players were smaller ?

I had Big League for Christmas when I was ten, before I had Subbuteo. I was absolutely chuffed with it.

From memory the players were the same size as in Striker, if not slightly bigger, but instead of hitting them on the head you pulled back their spring-loaded leg and let go. There was a little peg on the side. You could get some power and height on the ball.

A set came up on eBay a few weeks back. I was tempted but I wanted to stay focused on Subbuteo.

If memory serves right - my cousin had it when we were 8/9 - the pitch was huge. Even then I felt it was more of a 2nd Division game, why play this when you could play Subbuteo?

Wouldn't mind one now though :-\

The pitch must be huge if they are striker size figures.

How was the goalie supposed to save anything ?

Pitch was a little bigger than a Subby pitch but not that much bigger. GoalieS just stood there, they saved the ball if you hit them with the ball. Newgold it was not as good as subby but then again Striker, big league etc were not as good as Subby either. There is only one table top footy game and that was made by SSG.

I have a couple of these sets. Here are some pics. The players are bigger than striker players. The team colour guide is great it shows numerous team colours including scottish and irish leagues, mexico 70 teams etc. plus a guide on mixing the paints.

Great for launching Subbuteo Set FF's halfway down the garden as I recall.
