Stadium update

Postby Wrightenberg » 03 Jan 2016, 15:33

I haven't updated in ages, but the time off at Christmas gave me the chance to get back up on the loft and do a bit of work. I was never totally happy with the original main stand, so I pulled it down and used Subbuteo terraces with a wooden cantilever stand.

I'm nor sure about the lighting - I just added them for effect. in time, I'm hoping to create a gantry for the lights that span the roof.

Great work. Love the terraced houses in the first photo. Unfortunately not enough room around mine, Just managed to get a pavement and one side of a road on my board.

Cheers fellas,

The pitch is a Zeugo Compact and about 110 x 70 cm. Lovely to play on, but looks a bit too modern for the ground. I'll eventually replace it with a home made one that'll hopefully look a bit more authentic. As for the size, I didn't have enough space for a full-size and the railway layout - so I had to compromise.

The Leitch stand, was made from mount board, corrugated card and cork tiles (for the terrace). It was only when I added the red parts I realised it had gone a bit Roker Park.

The terraced houses are Metacalfe card kits. Fairly easy to assemble, but very labourious when doing loads - a bit like painting spectators!!

I'll try to update on a regular basis. I've had a few months away from Subby, but then the bug hits you again and you're hooked!

This is excellent, something very similar to what I wish to do.
I'm hoping to create a bit of a replica of Craven Cottage, but don't have the space for a 'full size' pitch, so very interested in your size pitch as it looks great (especially without the shooting line).
Are the 110 x 70 cm measurements the playing dimensions, or are they right to edge of the cloth?

Hi mate, That's the cloth size. The playing area is about 90 X 60cm

Looking good, comes to life when the supporters arrive. Those standing fans from China are good value, although the painting is really poor it provides a starting point to work on.

Yeah, nice one. Like it a lot....
The stand behind the goal reminds me of the 'new' building work at the Old Trafford cricket ground - I think it's called "The Point".

I'm looking at ways of extending my playing surface, either by using a full size cloth, Subby astro - or making one myself. Only problem I have is the ground is hemmed in by the railway tracks.

It's not an ideal situation making these changes as my stadium is fairly developed. However, after a few nights of solo paly, I have come to the conculsion that I need a bigger pitch. Playing 8v8 on a compact pitch is just not doing it for me and I'm always going to be after a larger surface. Best to do it now and not further down the line.

Because I have a generous perimiter around the current pitch, I don't need to make up loads of space, but I will need to create some more. My plan is to push one of the side stands back a few inches and then reduce the size of large stand behind the goal by quite a bit to free up more space.

I'll uploads spme pictures next week....

Extending the playing surface was not without problems and as well as trimming down the Astropitch, I had to drastically reduce capacity behind one of the goals. Next up, I'll be 'weathering' the ground and painting up some spectators.

Here are some pics...
