Some of my new Flats....

Post by Retro Player » 14 Oct 2009, 19:00

I was getting a little fustrated trying to obtain flat figures, and some of the prices were starting to get a little steep. So i decided to have a go at producing some myself! After much toil and heart break i think i have now craked it. All the players are hand produced and play like a dream, one of the problems with flats is that they do tend to fall over qute a bit during the course of a game, these figures hardly ever stay down they spin up every time. Have a look and see what you think. :)

John

Try taking the picture from a distance and then cropping it on the computer.

Of what are these made ?

Hi Rich,
They are made from clear plastic film , making the master took a little while but now thats cracked i can produce teams of any colours and skin tone, hair colour and even yellow boots if it takes your fancy! The dimentions used are as the subbuteo flat, although the design is slighty different and a little more 70's. Numbers and badges may be a little difficut to put on the figure however. The colours will never fade or wear and i'm pretty positive that they will not curl up with age as some of the celluliod player have a habbit of doing.I think they may be lighter than a Subbuteo flat and you will have to pack out the slot in the base with paper for a snug fit if you don't wish to glue the figure in, (i cut a little masking tape and afix it to the figure, comes off without any damage to the figure). They are also robust and will take some punishment. Rob Patterson asked if i could make him the Arsenal team pictured and he immediatly used them at last weekends TSPA event and was well pleased with their preformance. :D

I was trying to do this, but couldn't find clear celluloid.
I think what you have achieved is magnificent & wish you all the success for your initiative.
Great stuff. I think you will have a queue of people requesting teams. 8)

A bit of both, I'm just fine tunning the finner points on production and getting the packaging to my liking, i've decided to produce teams fom the late 50's / early 60's, v-neck shirts with short sleeves (keep in time with the flats era prior to the introduction of the 3D figures). This is purly a tiny cottage stye production, everything is handmade with a personal touch, just like in the old days. I will post some pictures when i'm happy with the finished article.
I have a working name "Albion Table Soccer" - not to sure of any prices as yet, i'll wait for a little feed back first.
