Ideas for custom rugby teams

Post by NicolasP » 08 Jul 2014, 23:09

OK, so I'm going to be needing some help here lads.
A while back I picked up a nice original rugby team. However, as of this time, they are without decent opposition.
Seeing as rugby teams rarely show up on eBay and within my price range, and also the custom teams I find already painted are also outside my range, I'm looking for advice as to what's best to use to paint some teams of my own.
I.e: should I look to buy original rugby or H/W bases, or would I be OK using a modern kind of base.
I'm looking to paint around 5 different teams and would appreciate any advice.
If and when I get this done will for sure post pics!

Plenty of original teams come up on eBay, there a 2 on at 15 buy it now right now. Plenty more at 20. Especially the more common refs.

Buying box sets can mean you get the teams even cheaper. You would struggle to paint up a team of replicas with a box for under 15 quid and Lloydie does them for petty much that price anyway.

Alternatively buy a load of random spares. There usually auctions for 8-12 figures on any given day. It won't be long before you can make up some blue/ red/black teams.

The thing is though that for custom teams I've more or less settled for 2K4s.
My problems is the bases however. Should I invest in replica H/W bases or are some of the modern alternatives OK too.
There was an online seller selling original LW bases at some point but I durdled around too long and they appear to be out of stock now.

Use SuperFooty ones. I've got thousands if you can't find them, PM me.

Lloydie has done me several custom rugby teams over the years - all fantastic, highly recommend.

Maybe I could ask him then.
What were the bases and figures he used? I'm curious here.

Funny thing is I looked at top spin a while back and saw the bases there. I can't seem to find them any more however.

Try eBay. You can't move for them.
