How to get a matt finish?

Post by From red to blue » 11 May 2008, 15:49

I varnished 50 spectators with Matt Cote yesterday and they look awful. Before the varnish they looked almost real if you squinted, and now they look like gimps off to a patent leather festival. Is there anything I can do to help these fellas or the ones that follow? should I scuff them with steel wool, switch to Revel, or just leave them unvarnished?

As far as specs go, the last one is probably fine, but players with decals will get chipped won't they? All the advice I've read says varnish them. But what with?

I use Revell Matt varnish...I tried Matt Cote some while back and it gave poor results I seem to recall

I can post up some pictures of spectators I've done in Humbrol Pink, Purple and-or Lime Green Gloss and then Revell matt-varnished to show you the results if that is of any use

Just to tidy up the thread, Revell varnish worked a treat on my figures - on my Matt Coted spectators and the ones I've painted since. Thanks Dougal
