Post by Gary » 09 Oct 2008, 21:13

This is my first full attempt at a decalled kit having only painted one other kit before so I know there is room for improvement but just thought I would ask for others comments

great effort, I think you can be proud of that one...

If I was going to make any suggestions, and it seems a bit churlish but...

1) consider individualising the players, say by giving them different hair styles, colour...

2) looking at the real shirt it seems a bit pink in places where the red washes into the white...maybe try and get some pink or pale red into the mix...maybe

Great job though like I said at the start...there are lot's more of those kinds of kits to try and hone your skills on too...

Pink? you saying there is pink in the shirt?? It is all red but when it was worn on TV all the pattern was lost and it did just look like an all pink shirt leading to more of the gay stereotypes being used by opposition fans.

The reason its gloss varnish at the moment is that if I spray my matt directly onto the paint it reacts with it but if I spray it onto a gloss varnish it does dull it down. Might do a little bit of research and find a team photo to change some hair colours as well.

Thanks for the comments so far

Gary

edit. Just sprayed them up matt and they do look better, not got that new car look to them :)

Nothing wrong with pink in my view.... :lol!:

That photo of the shirt looks pinkish in places to my eyes at least.

Red + White = pink after all

Good effort, I love the shirt colouring, how did you do that?

I haven't ventured to use decals, would like to give it a go maybe. You've inspired me to have a go. Will get some going this weekend...

Shirt and shorts are full decals, I just extracted a portion of the shirt and then pasted it into the decal as a pattern.

Delta, glad you like it, im considering my next one to be a certain kit from 1983, any suggestions? ;)

Might have another look at the pattern, I did a lot of cleaning up on it and maybe I over enhanced the colours

Right, taken on board all the comments (much appreciated) and decided to start from scratch again. I scanned the shirt to get the pattern, did not editing what so ever except to extract a pattern so its a bit pinker :), vectorized all the logos rather than using tiny bitmaps so should be clearer, learnt how to use coral draw a bit better, corrected the font on the sponsors logo. So in a couple of days time when I get to finish it all I will post pictures of v2 :)

Hey Gary
Just curious to know what program you use to make you decals. Also, how did you get them to wrap all the way round your figure.

Chris,

I use corel draw for the artwork and get as much coverted into vector graphics as possible. It means the arwork can be resized to any size without the image becoming pixelated.

The back is pretty much a basic rectangle but the front is a rectangle with the bottom sides extended to wrap around the sides of the figures and the sleeves are triangles stuck to the top of the rectangle
