That's why I gave up playing in tournaments...the prize fund was just pathetic. Not worth getting out of bed for.

Sod the banter, fun and meeting like minded people and having a bit of fun...it's all about the prize fund for me these days. :O
Now I know where BCFC get there their investment from :D

We'd be in the Conference if they relied on my investment from 'winnings' Paul ;-)

Get your wallet out Ian!!!!!!!!

Going back to the thread, one point you made that I agree with, you can play seriously, but still have banter and a laugh, that is so true.

I've seen some amazing Subbuteo skills shown by lads having a giggle whilst playing.

Foxy ( Jim ) and some of the Italian lads were very adapt at showing both 'skills'.

The Italians are something else when it comes to the skills of the game.
There are some fantastic players there, love watching them

Imo, Subbuteo at it's best is played amongst friends or family members.

It's about recreating games you've watched, recreating tournaments, making leagues...using your imagination.

It's about collecting the different teams...opening the box's and not seeing 11 plastic figures...but seeing 11 players you recognise from that team or era.

It's about commentating in your head as you flick those players... and using your imagination to the best of your ability, to recreate football.

Making the 'rules' interpret football as best as possible.

I'll always remember playing against 'Foxy' when he made some defensive flicks at a corner. All three flicks touched my players...but it was cool as they were just jostling for position in the box 8) I loved it....

The game is made too serious...it's not a sport...it shouldn't be too competitive.

For me...it's about having fun, using my imagination and trying to recreate a football game...however daft that seems...imagination is the real skill to have.
All of this !
I agree with Spudski, superb stuff, I've got my own felty pitch and plastic goals and the team edition 2012. Want a board to mount my pitch on and create my own leage etc etc. and probably use the Old rules etc. I play with two good friends. and have great fun!

I'm a relative newby to Subbuteo, but have always had a keen interest in the game. Had a set in the mid 90's. then an updated set from the Team edition from 2012.
