How do I strip paint from figures?

Postby plasticman » 27 Apr 2015, 18:59

Hi,I have an old lightweight team which I would like to re-paint....I was considering just painting over them but was considering stripping the paint from the figures depending on how easy it would be....is there an easy way to strip the paint and what would the best thing to use?

For plastic figures I always use dettol. Soak them for a good few hours then gently scrub with an old toothbrush and soak again. Repeat until the paint is gone then wash thoroughly in warm water and washing up liquid. Don't let them touch water until the paint is gone or you will end up with a sticky greasy mess of half digested paint.

Does dettol not melt the guys if you forget about them, like nail varnish remover does?

The surface can become a little sticky if you leave them in there for more than a day or so but a quick wash with fairy liquid and leave to set again for 24 hours and they are as hard as ever. I think that if they are going to dissolve in dettol you are talking months rather than hours.
