Painting first Subbuteo Teams

Postby Keeponrollin » 14 May 2015, 20:38

Hi

I am going to paint my first team and was wondering if someone could tell me if it would be better to just paint the team or should I decal and paint. Would be grateful of any advice.

Regards
Jim

Hi Jim,
it very much depends on your choice and quality of painting.
Decals have a better effect but very time consuming.
What kits are you doing

Hi lloydie

Thanx for replying to my post.

I am from Liverpool and was going to do the kit worn by the Liverpool team in the 2005 Champions league final. Also the Milan team from same fixture.

I don't know if I am been to adventurous for my first time of painting. Would it be to difficult to do without decals.

Thanx

Depends how confident you are with hand painting, the kits are not too intricate,

Yeah I think I will go with just painting them. Are humbrol paints ok or can you use any. I seen on this site someone saying you can use crown matt. Apparently you can mix any colour and get tester pots. Sorry if I am picking your brain too much.

No probs mate,
humbrol matt or satin are best, as are acrylic, never used the crown stuff

My dad painted literally hundreds of teams back in the late 90s/00s, he reckoned humbrol acrylic was the best he'd used. Also, if you do an undercoat of (very) light blue, that may help ...

Aye to Humbrol acrylics. Personally it's matt for hw's but gloss for lw's.

I just paint in matt acrylic and then gloss varnish followed by matt varnish over the top. Vallejo, Humbrol, Citadel and Coat d'Arms are my paints of choice.
