:lol!: The quality of Pork Pie has taken over as precedence, over the quality of Subbuteo being played imo :lol!:

The France 98 box set. The corner kickers work just as well. It's the only Hasbro equipment (oh and goals) that we've allowed ourselves to use, simply because they are great fun! A lot easier to use than previous version of throw in takers. If you get it right, you can throw the ball directly onto your playing figure.
Managed to track down a France 98 today, looking forward to trying the contraptions out when it arrives.

Great! Hopefully the set you receive has the figures included and intact.

The quality of the pork pie is a serious factor. Rich has set the bar high. May have to find one of the fancy pies with fruit on the top for next time.....

Let me know when the next meeting is planned and I will try and make it, mainly for the pork pie of course.

Arrived today almost mint with half the contents still in unopened bags. Just been launching throw ins into the box, great fun. Both the corner and throw in devices are very effective and sturdy design.

Old Sods Meet 7 – 15 September 2018

Location: The Cabin

It’s been a short space of time between meetings 6 and 7. We’ve had a fantastic Summer and Autumn appears to be following suit. It’s allowed for us Old Sods to fit another round of games in the Cabin and also outside on the patio (we love playing Subbuteo outside!).

Unfortunately John wasn’t able to attend this meet, we’ve certainly missed him. In his absence, we’ve had the privilege of hosting Mick and Richard from the Wolverhampton club. We also had a new player join the ranks, Swanny. Swanny regularly plays against Andy who has finally managed to coax him into attending a meet. We’re all very pleased that he attended and welcome him back for future sessions.

With 7 players competing, we’ve had a busy fixture list this meet! We only had time to play each other once, but did manage to fit in a couple of doubles games at the end of the day. Richard and Adam have both invested in Pendle Falcon teams, with both players using the Pendle’s during today’s meet to varied success. If anyone is interested in purchasing a set, you can do so here http://www.pendlefalcon.com/index.html

Results:

Unfortunately one player was unable to attend the meet at the last minute. Opponents have been awarded 1-0 win in his absence. These games are highlighted with an *

Round1 Player Score Score Player

Cabin Adam 0 1 Andy

Outside Badger 1 0 Bill *

Cabin Ian 2 1 Mick

Outside Rocket 0 1 Swanny

Round 2 Player Score Score Player

Cabin Andy 0 0 Badger

Cabin Bill 0 1 Ian *

Outside Mick 2 0 Rocket

Outside Swanny 0 3 Adam

Round 3 Player Score Score Player

Cabin Adam 1 1 Badger

Outside Andy 1 0 Bill *

Outside Ian 2 0 Rocket

Cabin Mick 1 0 Swanny

Round 4 Player Score Score Player

Outside Badger 4 1 Ian

Cabin Bill 0 1 Mick *

Outside Rocket 0 4 Adam

Cabin Swanny 2 1 Andy

Round 5 Player Score Score Player

Cabin Adam 1 0 Bill *

Outside Badger 0 1 Mick

Cabin Ian 1 0 Swanny

Cabin Rocket 0 3 Andy

Round 6 Player Score Score Player

Outside Andy 1 1 Ian

Cabin Bill 0 1 Rocket *

Outside Mick 0 1 Adam

Cabin Swanny 0 4 Badger

Round 7 Player Score Score Player

Cabin Adam 1 0 Ian

Outside Andy 0 1 Mick

Cabin Badger 3 0 Rocket

Outside Bill 0 1 Swanny *

Final Table

Player Played Won Drawn Lost G+ G- GD Points

Adam 7 5 1 1 11 2 9 16

Mick 7 5 0 2 7 3 4 15

Badger 7 4 2 1 13 3 10 14

Ian 7 4 1 2 8 7 1 13

Andy 7 3 2 2 7 4 3 11

Swanny 7 3 0 4 4 10 -6 9

Rocket 7 1 0 6 1 15 -14 3

Bill 7 0 0 7 0 7 -7 0

Retaining the trophy from Meet 6, Adam finishes top of the table. It went down to the wire, his last game against Ian was a winner takes all. With Adam 1 up, Ian had 2 seconds left on the clock to equalise. Ian shot, the ball flew in, only for it to be disallowed as the final whistle had blown prior to the shot being taken. The battle between these 2 players continues!

Mick was welcomed back to the club (he last attended Meet 5) and performed exceptionally well, once again finishing in 2nd place. The small ball and old style bases are not Mick’s normal choice of playing equipment. He showed his class by winning 5 out of 7 games and only narrowly missed out of top spot by 1 point. Well done Mick!

Richard Badger also joined us from the Wolverhampton club for this meet. He’s the current Staffs champion, so we knew games against him would be very tough. As you can see from the final table, he’s finished top scorer for the day with a massive 13 goals for and only 3 against. Richard will be welcomed back in the future.

Ian finishes 4th this time, with some sterling performances against some very tough opposition. The phrase ‘WTF!!!’ was heard on more than one occasion during Ian’s games today. It’s been a day of fine margins and Ian had his fair share of WTF moments for and against today. That’s Subbuteo for you! He’s becoming the Master of the Corner Kicker, with his technique envied by everyone during today’s meet.

Another respectable mid table finish for Andy today. He scored some cracking goals during the day, with the highlight being an amazing half volley on the bounce from a throw in. I wish we had caught it on camera as it was magic! As always, consistency is key for Andy. He can beat the player who’s top of the league in one game and then lose to the player who’s bottom of the league in the next. He mixed it up well today putting in some solid performances.

It’s been a great debut from our new player, Swanny. He’s banged in a few goals, nabbed a few wins here and there and competed exceptionally well for his first meet. With a playing style similar to Andy, Swanny will be one to watch for the future. We’d love to see him back for session 8.

Last, but not least, Richard ‘The Rocket’ takes up his regular spot near the bottom of the table. Switching back to HW’s this time around, Richard’s game is coming on leaps and bounds every session. His blocking has improved significantly along with some of his positional play. He just needs to work on keeping the ball and keeping it away from his flicking goalie! We’re certain his results will start to turn a corner fairly soon.

We managed to bring back doubles games this session, with Mick and Richard Badger taking on Andy and Swanny. I honestly can’t recall the score at the final whistle, we were all laughing so much that the score seemed irrelevant! If you haven’t played Subbuteo doubles before, I’d recommend giving it a try. It’s great fun!

That’s all from Meet 7. Keep on flicking! Pork Pie Fat Tongue!
