Lincoln Flickers World Cup '66 Revisited

Postby Jaypeedee » 10 Nov 2016, 18:17

After two aborted attempts, this competition has now been scheduled for:

Sunday 11th December 2016

1pm

Morning Star pub, Greetwell Gate, Lincoln

It will now be an OLD SUBBUTEO COMPETITION played according to Advanced Rules and with traditional subbuteo or replica equipment, e.g. heavyweights, lightweights, card or celluloid flats, Santiago, Top Spin etc. Maybe even large balls - let me know your opinion.

Entry cost will be £5 per person which includes a buffet lunch available from 12 noon.

When entering, please choose which of the following teams that competed at the 1966 World Cup in England you wish to represent. (It might also be helpful if you list a second option in case your original choice has already been taken.)

England
West Germany
Portugal
USSR (already taken)
Argentina
Hungary
Uruguay
North Korea
Italy
Spain
Brazil
Mexico
Chile
France
Bulgaria
Switzerland

It would seem a shame not to commemorate England's historic (and probably unique) achievement of 1966 on its fiftieth anniversary, so please take the plunge and enter. Lincoln in the run-up to Christmas is a pretty special place so why not arrange to bring the missus, stay a night or two, make a weekend of it?

If you want any further info', simply reply to this topic.

Sounds fantastic. But it's too close to Christmas for me. I've the ALL CLEAR to attend something like this in the new year/spring time. So hopefully there will be an event around then. Best of luck with it.

I would really like to get this tournament played. (Apart from anything else, the trophy has been bought!)

Just to reiterate, the comp will be played according to OS rules, and a buffet lunch/supper can easily be made available if required.

I have a no. of teams available to borrow (painted by Mark Parker on Santiago heavyweight style bases) or you can, of course, bring your own.

If you're interested in principle please let me know what day(s) of the week and times of the year would suit you best. Also, please let me know your preference as to size of balls!

Thanks!

Good question Paul - John to make it worthwhile you need to be offering five or six games ?

We won't be starting at 1pm, more probably about 10.30-11am with a format designed to ensure 5-6 games per player.

sounds good ... June when there's no games to clash with ?

and big ball for preference .. I really don't understand the logic of a 22mm ball for old style subbuteo
