OSC OS (Old Subbuteo Club Old Sods)

Session 2
Date: 13 Jan 2018
Venue: Puffin’s Cabin

Attendees:
Spudski
ZuluBlue
SpeedwayMad
JohnClu48
Puffin
Fingers

Pitches x 2
1 x indoor pitch (Black Flickmaster baize, plastic goals)
1 x cabin pitch (Standard Subbuteo baize, metal goals)

Rules: Advanced
Equipment used: HW & LW

The second meeting for the Old Sods took place on 13 January 2018. The original 5 members were joined by the legendary Steve ‘Fingers’ Moreton who made a fantastic effort to attend the session, making a 6 hour round trip to join the West Midlands club.

Due to the cold weather conditions it was decided that the outside pitch would be moved indoors for this session (well, it is January after all!). It will hopefully make a return during the Spring/Summer meetings.

Last time out, Puffin was the runaway winner, finishing 5 points above closest rival Spudski. Could he be knocked off of top spot this time, or would he retain the coveted OS OSC trophy?

Results

Puffin 1-1 Spudski
ZuluBlue 0 -0 JohnClu48
SpeedwayMad 2 – 3 Fingers
Spudski 1 – 1 ZuluBlue
JohnClu48 1 – 0 SpeedwayMad
Fingers 1 – 1 Puffin
Puffin 1 – 0 ZuluBlue
JohnClu48 0 – 1 Fingers
Spudski 3 – 0 JohnClu48
Puffin 4 – 0 SpeedwayMad
ZuluBlue 0 – 0 Fingers
Puffin 0 – 0 JohnClu48
Spudski 1 – 0 Fingers
ZuluBlue 2 – 0 SpeedwayMad
Spudski 1 – 0 SpeedwayMad

Final Table

Player Played Won Drawn Lost G+ G- GD Points
Spudski 5 3 2 0 7 2 5 11
Puffin 5 2 3 0 7 2 5 9
Fingers 5 2 2 1 5 4 1 8
ZuluBlue 5 1 3 1 3 2 1 6
JohnClu48 5 1 2 2 1 4 -3 5
SpeedwayMad 5 0 0 5 2 11 -9 0

We have a new champion! Spudski takes top spot, winning his final match to lift the coveted OS OSC trophy for the first time. A solid performance from our newcomer Fingers results in 3rd spot, losing just 1 game all day against the eventual winner. ZuluBlue and JohnClu48 retain their places in mid table, with improved performances from both players this time round. SpeedwayMad props up the table. Despite some heavy defeats this time round, his gameplay has vastly improved from the last session and he’s doubled his G+ from last session in half as many games. Definitely one to keep an eye on!

After the final game was played, Puffin brought out his 1950’s cardboard flats. We played a couple of games of frantic doubles matches with them which we all really enjoyed. This may be the start of something……..

You must get down to one Ralph this year mate. Next meet in March. Flats came out in force for doubles games. Had a game with some Pendle Falcon flats and bases...how lovely are those. So accurate when curling.

Plus...have you ever seen a corner scored, direct with a corner kicker? Neither had I, until yesterday. Absolute bonkers stuff...so skilful. Takes some practice, but you can inswing and outswing with them if placed right. Learnt something yesterday.

Subbuteo at it's best... some more from the day.
