Hi Folks,

Back to the forum after a good while - though didn't post much even back in the day!

I have to agree with Mark that the Palermo he has up is an absolute shocker and certainly would win my "boxfresh award", though the lovely lemon 115 Cape Town was a close second.

Whilst I am tending to buy my teams mainly from Mark at the moment either via ebay or direct (thank you Mark). I am also minded to take the occasional punt on ebay with other sellers.

The issue is I am a bit out of touch with who to avoid, back in my day the two most prolific re-painters were good old bearman and Catsmad but things seemed to have moved on a bit since then. I suppose Bearman's ever expanding list of "finds" in his loft did have to end eventually.

I have come across a fairly active seller thelocoshed he seems to list some decent teams, any one got a view on their legitimacy? They look okay to me.

Apologies if its an ISF subscriber no offence meant - sometimes its hard to know- who-is-who on ebay.

Paul

I cant believe all the guys who repaint have moved on- money they made was too easy. Suspect a few sell under different id's , locations etc. Im sure i had a brief encounter recently with an old foe of mine. A deal too good to be true then the door closed shut- i have a hunch they remembered me. That was a deal via gumtree and that has a poor rep for people being conned.

Yes it does seem odd that must repainters have moved on. Bearman likely made enough over the years to retire to the sun. As you say Ian perhaps they've just reinvented themselves with a new IDs and locations and are buying up common teams as we speak- ready to start all over again.

I have also been thinking about giving gumtree a go but its the wild west out there. I think I'd only buy locally, so I could do the deal face to face.

Having had two original HW Melchester Teams, it's worth noting for any new collector, that the red ref label was the same one that SSG sometimes used on the Red Football Express Teams and Red Tracksuited Teams.

The one shown on that link isn't one of these.

Ian, your knowledge and ability to spot a fake is second to none You should probably set up a service to check the authenticity of teams. If a buyer is paying good money for a rare team, a few quid more to run it past an 'expert' for peace of mind would be well spent.
