Hike for Business Sellers

Postby duncthehat » 13 Jul 2017, 22:48

If you are a business seller on ebay like me, fees are on their way up

In 2015 ebay stopped charging vat on fees after getting special dispensation from HMRC. For example listing fees went down to 25p from 30p

Around a year ago they increased their fees by around the same percentage which to many including me here thought was them putting vat back on fees.

Nope wrong, from August vat will be included on top of fees so a final listing fee of 10 per cent will be 12 per cent. listing fee of 30p will be 36p, If you charge £4 postage they will charge you 48p instead of 40p in fees.

Happy days!

It costs me 10p to list an item, so not such a big hike in the long term.

I was under the impression that it was 20% vat on your total eBay fees. So if you pay £200 a month eBay fees that will now rise to £240 if this is the case I will be selling up.

you are right barry. LLoydie if you have a shop which i am guessing you have if it is 10p per listing. your shop fees go up 20 per cent. Also if you sell an item for say £20 with say £8.80 postage to Italy:
Listing fee 10p now 12p
FVF £2 now £2.40
fee on postage 88p now £1.05
Paypal fee £1.13 remains £1.13

Sale today £20 less fees equals £4.11 total to you £15.89 for me paying 30p listing fee I get £15.69
From August 1st £20 less fees £4.70 total to you £15.30 for me paying 36p listing fee I now get £15.04

Basically 25 per cent fees on items to italy on £20 or less sales

Sell 100 items at this price you loose £59.00 profit I loose £65 more

Yes mate, I have a shop, though at times I dont get charged for listings, dont know why, as a zero insertion offer is not on. Also at times it lets me edit an item into something different without charges, so at times there are ways to save. They continually over complicate things.

Regardless of anything, you get an eBay bill at the end of the month after July this will be 20% more. I will close my eBay shop and business before the end of July it's not worth it.

I am closing my ebay shop at the end of the month well Saturday to be precise. Probably nothing of interest to most people on here but I am happy to give big reductions and combined postage to forum members on everything in the shop. My seller name is stix69saints.

Seriously considering same. Got a few medals etc finishing before end of month. My etsy shop (mostly jewellery) is doing fine with less fees. Will concentrate on that.
