Bishop Auckland v Darlington. Proper NE clash. I've had the privilege to have played against both sides. Beat Darlo 3-1 in a friendly but lost to Auckland in an FA Cup preliminary round game 0-2. :(

Good to see that the penalty shoot-out hasn't arrived in your Cup competition.

No this is 1982 so we keep playing until we get a winner. Just happy there were not too many to replay as i've also got league games to play.

Brighton out :O
No favoritism here. They were lucky to get a replay, with a shot that rebounded back off the goalie to Mike Robinson, who was spinning forward on his base and knocked home in the last seconds.

That's the sort of spontaneity and unpredictability that produces the interest and fascination in what we do. Any attempt to favour certain teams or "arrange" results would simply spoil it.

In one of my recent games a Melchester Rovers player must have "tripped" a split second before shooting for goal. He ended up somersaulting over the ball, landing in its path, and actually cleared his own shot off the line. For every "amazing" piece of dribbling skill there are always several which, shall we say, don't quite work out, without being as dramatic.

FA CUP FINAL

EVERTON V NORTHAMPTON TOWN

First Division Everton making their second final appearance in the last two years made a slow start against Division Two side Northampton. Both sides wasted some decent chances before Borrows broke free down the wing and hit a low shot from distance into the bottom left corner of the Cobblers goal, to give Everton the lead on 20 minutes. Northampton's Saxby who had scored 9 goals in the competition had the best chance of the half to equalise but shot well wide.

In the second period it seemed only a matter of time before Everton would increase their lead, but with some dreadful misses Northampton came back into the game as gaps opened at the back. With 15 minutes remaining a long punt up field found Northamptons centre half, Kruse, stealing in between two defenders and smacking the ball in off the post for 1-1.

Everton pushed forward for a winner and were looking in danger from the long ball from Northampton's back line. With the clock ticking down and extra time looming a neat one two between Sharp and Eastoe opened up the defence and Everton's Eastoe blasted home the winner on 85 minutes.

Well played, Sir!

Congratulations to the Toffees, too. Good to see these guys keeping very busy, with their skills still in demand.
