Re: Restoration and fixing up projects
Next up is a HW17, that had been painted over with gloss and had numbers glued onto the back. I've already got a good condition HW17 in my collection, so I removed the glue from the backs, stripped it down and repainted as a HW87 - replacing the keeper and box

Re: Restoration and fixing up projects
Finally got around to finishing off the HW 173. Getting the red off the discs was a total pain and I ended up swapping some of them over for other bases. Always heartbreaking when you pull them out of the oven cleaner and see shades of the original team underneath.
Apologies for the light quality in the last pic - very dull here today.

Re: Restoration and fixing up projects
I bought the team last week, As you can see from the close up (looking at the socks) it's a ref 54 - but the all white bases have got me stumped a bit.
It was part of a two team purchase, I got them both for £8. The other team, (I'll show it later) has green and white bases, currently hiding under paint. I'm wondering whether this pair have had the bases swapped, hence the additional glue - or whether a 54 ever appeared on all white bases?
I'll upload some pics when completed

Pair of teams with bases swapped I meant - not pair of playersWrightenberg wrote: I'm wondering whether this pair have had the bases swapped, hence the additional glue - or whether a 54 ever appeared on all white bases?

Re: Restoration and fixing up projects
As suspected, the Ref 54 players had been removed from their original bases and put on the all whites. The green discs and white bases were hidden under a mass of turquoise paint in the 2nd team of the two team lot. Here are three pics, one of the original hw54, one of the bases covered in paint and then the finished team.
Took quite a bit if time getting the paint off the discs, but they've scrubbed up better than expected. I got both these teams for £8, so not too bad. As for the remaining team, I've stripped it down (just a ref 21 underneath). I'll do something with that in the next couple of weeks.
