As far as I know those were the only 2 non league clubs listed in the catalogues.

Of course Bradford (ie Bradford PA) ref 36 and Barrow ref 18 were League clubs who later dropped out (same for Workington and Southport).

I have seen a version of Hereford Utd that came in a typed named box and did not appear in the catalogue. Someone else on here will be able to say if that was produced whilst they were non-league (due to their FA Cup exploits 71-72) or whether they have gained entry to the league by then 1972-73.

Found another- Ref 030 - Burton Albion (non-league throughout their history until 2009). Pic below from a 72/73 catalogue showing all three (only Barnet given their league in brackets strangely)..

ref 39 there Bradford were in The Northern Premier League by then (left the league wearing a 39 type kit in 69-70) ..I think all of the Northern ex-league clubs lived on in the catalogues whilst in the NPL ... as did Drumcondra who had been formally taken over by Home Farm in 1972 after a year of technically being Home Farm-Drumcondra

I saw Barnsley play Barrow a couple of times, late 60's, in, would you believe, the old League Division Three. They played in all blue. They had a decent side, and then within a short period of time, went into non-league.
I also saw Barnsley play Bradford in 1970 in the FA Cup. I seem to remember they'd just gone non-league. They played in all white with two coloured chest bands. Might have been a change strip.

I used the catalogue as a reference until I was about 11 when I started collecting football memorabilia properly and and realised that SSG had the 90% target and 10% allowance for error the wrong way around .. a fine exemplar of the efficiencies of 1970's British Industry

Yes Barrow were in Divison Three in the late 60's and had a decent side before the Southern clubs voted them out in 72 ..the league table tells you all you need to know about whether that represented a fair deal for Barrow ...

I was at that match. I don't remember seeing you there. Tony Leighton was centre forward for Bradford.

Barnsley went on to play Rhyl in Round 2. They lost 0-2 in extra time in the second replay at Old Trafford on 21 December. 2003 of us rattling round in a 60000+ capacity stadium. No idea why they didn't pick a venue more suited to the likely attendance.

Any road, I like the way you say "just gone non-league", as though that was a positive decision on their part.

Yes - we should never have let these Southerners in. They were all too keen to jump on a chance to dump outpost clubs like Gateshead, Workington and Barrow.

Cambridge are ref 21 in the 71-2 catalogue ..I've not got 72-3 to hand but they are ref 6 by 73-4 typed label same as my New Burnley released in 72-3
They are ref 21 in the 72-73 as well which corresponds very well with the Historical Kits listings so guessing the typed box one is after '73. Maybe.

So, Cambridge United are listed as ref 21 in the 1972-73 subbuteo catalogue ?? I haven't looked at the catalogues myself, 'cos I haven't got them with me.
Historical kits have got Cambridge playing in ref 6 from 72-74. Thats two seasons i.e August 72 to May 74. They're correctly listed as ref 6 in the subbuteo catalogue for season 73-74. But wrongfully listed as ref 21 in subbuteo catalogue 72-73. Hence the need to produce a typed, named, Cambridge United for that one season i.e. 72-73.
Most probably distributed to toy shops and sports shop in and around Cambridge, late '72 and into '73.
Fairly common reference but a rare named box.

Historical kits have Cambridge United playing in reference 30 from August '74, so they ought to be listed as reference 30 in the 74-75 catalogue.

I've just convinced Dave to put a new Partick kit on there for 74-5 and unsurprisingly it is nothing like the SSG Partick !!

There are some nice kits on that Partick Thistle page, but I especially like the reference 29 equivalent (60's into early 70's).

prefer it with Black shorts myself ... I think my Jags team most closely resembles the 75-6 kit although for reasons known only to the artist mine has Yellow socks with a Red/Black hoop half way ...
