Lovely item...not so lovely price!....some obv common ref choices but wonder if some of the other ref no's chosen were close-ish matches to Jap league sides at the time? Why have a 154 and a 156, and why chuck in a 138 when you already have a 1, 41 & 100?

Subbuteo sellers and dealers in general operate in a strange market outwith the normal bounds of the commercial world ... many set prices at a certain point which seemingly negates their ability to sell anything ... obviously some of them don't actually need to sell much which is fine and entirely their concern however ...

In simple terms most of the stuff for sale out there is priced far in excess of the real market value or you wouldn't log in to ebay and elsewhere and see the same stuff for sale month after month after month ... not many businesses in the real world would operate that way and survive

Market forces dictate selling price - if it had been the right price someone would have bought it - ditto 90% of the stuff on ebay

The long term effect of ebay has been to begin to reduce the price of football related collectables including Subbuteo for two reasons

1) The market is now saturated across the board compared to say 20- 25 years ago almost anything and everything is now available to a wider audience
2) The market is also subject to a large amount of conmen, fakery and outright rubbish - this goes beyond Subbuteo into books, shirts, autographs, programmes etc etc etc

As the bases warp and the paper yellows so the bubble starts to burst
