White Hart Lane

Post by chickster25 »

After many years of loving Subbuteo and stadiums, I have decided to try and create a new stadium based on the White Hart Lane from the early 2000's.

I have plenty of ideas to incorporate, but I do not want to give too much away at the moment, as its nice to have a few surprises. I will mainly be using Subbuteo modern stadiums for the initial build. I plan to create something quite simple that I can use and then slowly work on making it more WHL over time.

If funds allow, I hope to do some 3D printing so I can create some custom bits to make my stadium unique - although I do fear my imagination is far more advanced than my ability! I have a couple of iphones which I intend to use as scoreboards, so I will need to create a custom frame to fix them to the stadium roof - plus add some add further construction pieces so the roof does not collapse.

My actual stadium will need to be configured so that it can be removed from the sides of the pitch, so that playing can take place. I hope to model not jus the inside but the outside space too - I already have a few 1:76 coaches, which will arrive outside to drop off the teams.

So I have two main questions which I need to answer before I go any further:
1. The pitch. I already own a Subbuteo soft pitch, a Subbuteo Astropitch plus I have been tempted by a new Pegasus chequered pitch. Which should I go for?
2. Floodlights - I already own 4 of the Subbuteo modern floodlights. If I am being true to realism, then WHL did not have floodlight pylons, so should I not use them and just go for LED strip lighting? Or should I find a way to incorporate the old floodlights into the design as they are such a 'feature' of English stadiums?

Work has finally begun on White Hart Lane. Sadly, a lot of time has gone into building the stadium 'foundations' which is quite unexciting but will hopefully be worth the effort in the long run.

The Subbuteo table has been designed with removable sides, so that the stands can be removed and stored underneath when games are taking place. I have added wooden supports to hold up the sides, which then slide underneath the playing surface. It may need a bit of tweeking as all a bit rigid at the moment, but dont want to make it too loose or it wont work. The top has to be fastened down hard as that will be supporting all the upward pressure from weight of the the sides. It feels a bit more like the modern Tottenham stadium than the old White Hart Lane at the moment!!

Looks very solid for a base! Good luck with the build. Always great to see new subbuteo stadiums rising.

The pitch has now been laid - had a few issues with the repositioning glue because it is a spray it is difficult to get the right amount across the board. The pitch began to bubble underneath but with some weights I managed to avert a disaster.

I am now working on the fencing around the pitch, but at least I have been able to play the first game: an international match for the opening game between Denmark and England.

It was a fantastic end-to-end game, which ended after extra time in a 3-3 draw. Despite England missing their first two penatlies, they eventually won the match on sudden death penalties. :multi:

Work has continued at White Hart Lane. The advertising fencing is starting to be installed. The adverts can be changed to go with the match that is being played, so I can add Premier League or Champions League adverts etc.. thanks to some special magnets.

The fencing has been permanently installed around the pitch now, with a gap left by the dugouts for the players to get on & off the pitch.

I have now moved in to the next part of the stadium build and it’s something I hope will be original to White Hart Lane. I will be adding some technology, not VAR, as no-one likes that and it’s not practical. But as a solo player, sometimes it is difficult to know if a goal is scored, especially as I control the goalkeeper from behind the goal and flick the ball towards me. If I blink, then sometimes I cannot tell if the ball went into the net. So I am adding cameras for goal line technology. I will record in slow motion using a mini camera, then it can be replayed if needed.

Very nice indeed. Love the idea of interchangeable adverts with magnets.

Just a quick update today. It is time to return to my top division solo matches, so I have added the Premier league advertising around my pitch. There ar some more Premier league banners in the post, but this gives the idea of how the interchangeable advertising works...
