New additions from Porto, Portugal today.

Post by spudski »

Some nice teams and ephemera. Players came with the numbers attached to the inners, which I've removed with hot water. Got a whole load of loose players that came in the cigar box. Just need to find the right empty box's for them now. Hope you enjoy.

I was certainly happy when they arrived safely chaps. Took almost 3 weeks to complete the deal. Now we speak on WhatsApp as he has more Subbuteo. Fingers crossed.

Fair play mate that's some haul.... Boavista look great. Always liked that Sporting Lisbon kit as well.

Nice cigar box as well, you could start collecting them as well!

Super boxes there Ian again proving the 'there are no rules set in stone' rule, which ironically IS set in stone

It's Peter Uptons fault imo Mark.

It's a great site...but it has become 'the bible' for collecting circles. Certain collectors seem fixated with it.

At the end of the day, anyone could produce a website, it's just their 'opinion'.

Plus... it's hardly updated these days and way out of date. So much more evidence has come forward since it first started.

Special order service was offered abroad. That's one thing that isn't covered on their. The Special order forms have been turning up in Foreign boxsets.
Hence 'odd' teams turning up abroad.

The biggest one for me though...is the range of teams that were introduced in 1978. So many of them appear in the long splash box from 75-77 ish, in named box's. Especially from Germany, Holland, Belgium, Portugal, Spain and Italy....even though they had their 500 series.

From what I've seen through my collecting...is that SSG had the '1978 range' planned way back in 75/76. They just for whatever reason, didn't get round to producing an 'official' catalogue. So many teams turn up from that 78 catalogue in named long splash box's. The majority of the kits are also from the years 74,75,76.

So that 'rule' that the 78 range of teams didn't end up in long splash is rubbish imo. They wouldn't have ref numbers...as they didn't exist. But they most certainly do exist as teams, often named.

Just my findings over the years.

I think the catalogue issue may be explained by the ongoing change in figures at the time between the initial experimentation with HW replacements and the first appearance of the zombie figures which of course are first depicted in the 78 Subbuteo World catalogue but were readily available in my town from some time in 1977...

They wouldn't want to produce an old style chart showing photos of HW figures up to a point x in 1977/8 when they new full well that the figure was being phased out ?

Then as others have mentioned before we have to consider when the cats were issued ..certainly not bang on time on January 1st every year ;) ... I'd guess but cannot recall that each cat probably came out in the previous year anyway was and is often the case with these things ?

I think you need to be off loading that Portuguese paperwork Ian ;)

It's worth considering that Ralph...although it seems Catalogues from SSG do show HW and Zombie figures in them at the same time. As well as HP LW's. The Italian an Dutch Catalogues do for sure. The Italian Cats showing HW, LW and Hybrid.

If you consider the 1978 Catalogues...both in the UK and abroad...they show HW figures on the front cover. Yet the 'Zombie' pose in the actual pictorial catalogue inside. So it sort of goes against the theory as HW's were being phased out.

If I consider letting any ephemera go Ralph, I'll let you know. It's the one thing that doesn't take up too much space tbh.

And this in a Dutch boxset...plus numerous others, and teams appearing named.
