My Stadium

Post by Wacca »

After coming back to Subbuteo in 2013 after a 30 year gap, my ambition was to complete a traditional stadium. Fortunately, this was well before the price boom and as I had the bulk of accessories from my childhood, it was always going to be the spectator painting that would be the challenge. On and off for years, lockdown gave me the opportunity to focus and finish the work, and this weekend I have actually had the time to set up for the first time.
Few pictures attached. I have tried to keep as nostalgic as possible although with technology moving on I have updated with Subbuteostadium floodlights which are on original pylons, and goals are replica c154 metal goals from Astrobase to try and keep with the 70’s theme.

Brilliant. That's a great stadium. Such a massive crowd . Can I ask? Did you paint them all or get help?
The band is a great touch, I guess you would need the army to keep the peace between those two

I painted them all myself bar around 100 that were original C141 figures from back in the day. Just over 4000 in there.

That is the sort of stadium we all dreamt about as kids - great work.

The only problem is that Wolves haven't scored yet!

That's absolutely mint, Wacca.

As Glenantony says, it's what we all dreamt of having as kids, and looks just like the ones on the covers of the late 1970's catalogues!

I am I imagining it, or are there back yards of houses with sheds in one of the pics? But then you can't see them in the wider shots?

Thanks a lot. Yes - I bought some model railway scenery to try and incorporate in. TBH I don’t think it quite works so needs a bit more thought.

I love it though. Reminds of my first visits to Villa Park as a kid in the mid-70's

Houses like this were were all around the stands and have since been knocked down to allow for stadium expansion.

If space is an issue I believe you can get 'half houses' which are designed for use around the edges of railway layouts.
